A 2.0-litre diesel Volkswagen Tiguan is in the Luca Motors workshop in Alphington for a DSG transmission service, including a new hydraulic filter. Our workshop footage shows the used filter beside its replacement.
Why the DSG needs its own service
DSG stands for dual-clutch gearbox. Its maintenance requirements are separate from the engine oil and filter service. Keeping up with engine servicing does not automatically mean the transmission service is up to date.
The gearbox’s fluid and filter requirements depend on its design. For a DSG with a serviceable hydraulic filter, that filter helps trap particles in the transmission fluid. Replacing it when required is part of caring for the transmission.
The new hydraulic filter on this Tiguan
This Tiguan’s service includes a replacement hydraulic filter. It is a transmission component, separate from the engine oil filter. The right filter and fluid requirements need to be matched to the gearbox fitted to the vehicle.
If your Tiguan has a transmission warning light or a change in shifting behaviour, let us know when booking. We can assess the concern and advise whether it needs diagnosis alongside scheduled maintenance.
When is a Tiguan DSG service due?
There is no single interval that should be applied to every Tiguan DSG. Gearbox versions can have different schedules, fluid specifications and filter requirements. Volkswagen Group’s DSG servicing guide directs technicians to the vehicle-specific maintenance and repair information.
If the service history is unclear, have the vehicle details and records checked before deciding what is due.
